Job Description: The University of Toledo invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Ceramics to start on August 22, 2022. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses (introduction through advanced levels) in ceramics. Candidates with traditional or interdisciplinary artist practices are encouraged to apply. Minimum Qualifications: Qualified candidates must have the ability to teach all ceramic techniques including: hand building, wheel throwing, mold making, glaze making, 3D ceramic printing, and slip casting. They must also be familiar with multiple firing techniques including reduction, oxidation, sawdust and raku firings. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a clean, well- equipped ceramics studio. The candidate must have experience that includes knowledge of kiln care, construction, repair and operation, kiln shelf and furniture care, as well as the maintenance of other machinery (3D clay printer, clay mixer, pug mill, spray booth, standing-kick and electric wheels). A commitment to safe mineral and chemical stocking/supply and inventory is crucial, as well as familiarity with glaze chemistry and clay body formulation.
