The Department of Instruction & Leadership in Education (DILE) in Duquesne University's School of Education is seeking to fill a Clinical Assistant Professor of Reading and Literacy with a focus in Elementary Reading/Literacy. The non-tenure-track, nine-month appointment will begin on August 12, 2024. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The School of Education at Duquesne University has a rich history of preparing educational leaders for more than 90 years and is currently home to diverse undergraduate, masters, and doctoral programs for educators, including teachers, school counselors and psychologists, administrators, and academics.  The School of Education's faculty share a distinct identity manifested through educational leadership, scholarship for schools, and a Spiritan tradition of caring.

Within the School of Education, the Department of Instruction & Leadership in Education provides coursework that supports the PrK-4, Middle-Level and Secondary Leading Teacher Program. The Reading and Literacy Education (RLE) program in particular provides coursework integral to the pedagogy of reading, literacy, and English language arts education for grades PK-12 for both preservice and in-service teachers.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Clinical Assistant Professor of Reading and Literacy with a focus in Elementary Reading/Literacy will teach courses across the undergraduate and master's levels in the Leading Teacher Program and Reading and Literacy Education Program; and participate in service to the department, School of Education, and profession.

The ideal candidate should possess the following attributes:

Doctorate in reading/literacy education or a closely related field.

Demonstrated commitment to justice and equity in teaching, service, and/or professional experience.

Experience and willingness to teach/contribute across programs and at undergraduate and masters levels.

Experience and willingness in teaching face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats.

Experience and willingness to build collaborative partnerships across boundaries of schools, academy, and community.

At least three years successful teaching experience in U.S. elementary school settings (grades K-4).
