88.5 WFDD, North Carolina’s charter NPR affiliate station, seeks an experienced non-profit fundraising professional to lead our fundraising efforts in support of public radio programming. 88.5 WFDD has seen tremendous growth over the last several years, increasing membership revenue by 68% over three fiscal years, which has allowed the station to expand its news service and listener engagement efforts. Candidates must have a proven track record of non-profit fundraising experience preferably in a leadership role. Summary: The Membership Manager is part of the station leadership team, and works closely with station management to determine the strategic direction for the station. Working with minimal supervision, leads WFDD’s Membership Department. Supervises employees and oversees the management of the station's donor database, list management, donor mailings, donor prospecting, and all on-air and off-air fundraising which supports the overall departmental achievement of its current annual fundraising goal of over $1,300,000.
Works closely with station management and setting performance standard for the Membership Department by functioning as part of the station leadership team.
Provides analysis and interpretation of individual giving trends and fundraising effectiveness as well as strategic and long range planning for the Membership Department.
Plans, executes, and evaluates all individual fundraising activities (i.e. three annual on-air pledge drives, direct mail campaigns, and public events).
Cultivates donor growth/retention by strategically presenting donors with opportunities that will significantly impact the growth of WFDD with the help of station staff and management.
Develops and maintains a complete and comprehensive knowledge of the station's donor database.
Collaborates with Wake Forest University Finance and Accounting Services and Wake Forest University Advancement to ensure accuracy of donor and financial records.
Works on annual audit with external accounting firm and Wake Forest University’s Financial and Accounting Services department to ensure the annual audit of WFDD’s finances is completed in an accurate and timely manner.
Oversees the collection of funds from donors and the accounting and depositing of such monies.
Directs the production of the on-air portion of pledge drives.
Serves as on-air talent as needed during pledge drives.
Supervises the Membership Coordinator, as well as any interns or employees assigned to the department.
Works with outside education and civic organizations to provide educational opportunities such as guest lectures from station staff and group tours of WFDD’s studios.
Collaborates with Marketing and Traffic Manager for public events and other outreach activities.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Bachelor's degree plus at least three to five years of experience in non-profit fundraising or membership, or other applicable combination of education and experience.
Knowledge and understanding of public radio core values and goals.
Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines with professionalism.
Ability to analyze and interpret giving trends and financial statements.
Ability to function effectively as member of a leadership team.
Ability to supervise and effectively delegate tasks.
Proficiency with computer software (i.e. Word, Excel, the Internet, database management, and membership fundraising databases).
Basic working knowledge of accounting practices, budget planning, and daily cash/credit card reconciliation process.
Excellent written and oral communication skills; close attention to detail.
Ability to interact effectively with diverse members of the community.
Ability to occasionally work evenings and weekends as required in support of fundraising and other station events.
Ability to meet the requirements of the University’s automobile insurance.
Knowledge of standard accounting practices and familiarity with Allegiance donor database.
Experience managing a wide range of fundraising projects in support of a mission-driven organization.
Experience working in a public media organization.
Public speaking, both in person and through broadcasting outlets.
Responsible for own work.
